Reacting to mounting pressure and major demonstrations after the release of the Panama Papers, Iceland’s Prime Minister Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson is resigning. In the papers the Prime Minister is linked to an offshore company. That company allegedly had holdings in Iceland’s collapsed banks which is the key reason his leadership was questioned. Demonstrations took place outside the parliament in Iceland’s capital on Monday, with the number of people estimated to be somewhere between ten and fifteen thousand. Considering Iceland’s population is roughly three hundred and thirty thousand people that is considered a major portion of the population demanding the Prime Minister’s resignation.
